A time I almost got scammed by the internet

A few months ago, I almost fell for a text scammer who sent me a message claiming that a package I was expecting was being held due to an “unpaid delivery fee.” The text included a link that looked official and even used the UPS name, which made it seem believable in the moment. The message said that if I didn’t update my information and pay the small fee, my package wouldn’t be delivered. For a second, it made sense because I actually was waiting for a delivery that week. But when I looked closer, things didn’t add up—the link had a strange URL, the wording in the message was slightly off, and real delivery companies don’t send texts asking for personal information or payments through random links. The scammer’s goal was to trick me into entering my name, address, and credit card information on a fake website so they could steal it. The experience taught me to slow down and verify texts before acting, check the official company website directly, look closely at URLs, and trust my instincts whenever something feels rushed, unexpected, or slightly “off.”
